Anonymous Asked: how do I deal with the guilt?

That is a tough one.

Shame and guilt are awful feelings that can really eat away at you. Feeling embarrassed over what you done or guilty for hurting someone close to you because of your addiction.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is write it down or talk about it. Reframing the situation can work too.

What would my life look like without all of this guilt and shame? How would I live then?

After thinking about that, trying to live like that for a day or even an hour. I know it’s really difficult, trust me. And it’s even harder to forgive yourself, but the sooner you let it go and let the weight lift from your shoulders, you’ll feel so much better.

I still feel that way from time to time, but it does more damage than good.

Forgive yourself slowly, you’re worth it. Trying to stay sober is hard enough as it is without beating yourself up. :]
